Jamila McKinnon is a Beginner Farmer Educator with Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County. She grew up with a strong interest in nature and agriculture, which eventually led her to North Carolina A&T State University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture & Environmental Systems with a concentration in Sustainable Land & Food.
Her background includes working as an Environmental Educator, where she created hands-on learning experiences for K–8 students and helped them explore gardening, plants, pollinators, food, and the environment. She also gained research experience in mycology and agricultural systems, experiences that strengthened her interest in sustainable agriculture and the many ways people can connect with the land.
Jamila is passionate about caring for the earth and helping others feel more connected to the natural world around them. She enjoys traveling, exploring new places, and being outdoors. In her free time, you can usually find her hiking, practicing yoga, cooking, and engaging in arts. She is excited to be in Sullivan County and to learn from and contribute to the local agricultural community.
