Supporting caregivers helps reduce stress and caregiver burnout and improves wellness. Connecting with others reduces the sense of isolation that often accompanies caregiving for a loved one with dementia or Alzheimer's Disease. An estimated 80% of veterans will have some need for long-term services and supports in their lifetime.

This support group is offered and hosted by Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County (CCESC)’s Caregiver Resource Center (CRC), Action Toward Independence, and the Alzheimer's Association. This group is intended to provide both support and offer new community resources to the informal family caregiver who assists an aging, ill, or disabled adult relative or friend as well as Veterans and their family members. Occasional speakers will be invited to speak on caregiving topics.

These meetings provide an opportunity to listen, learn, and share in a comfortable space while finding assistance with caregiving concerns. The support groups offer a safe place for:

  • Sharing feelings, frustrations, and practical ways of coping
  • Meeting other caregivers who are in similar situations and can offer practical advice
  • Discovering new information and resources

You can register for these meetings through the link listed below or by emailing sullivancrc@cornell.edu.
