Contour Swales & Raingarden Design Workshop

  • Tuesday, October 27, 2026, 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM

Join Adrianne Picciano, owner of The Dirt Diva, for an informative workshop on contour swales and rain gardens. Participants will begin with an indoor presentation covering water management principles, construction methods, maintenance considerations, and the environmental benefits of these practices.

Following the presentation, attendees will head outdoors for a guided tour of the newly constructed contour swale project at Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County. This hands-on portion of the workshop provides an opportunity to see a working contour swale system in action, explore its design features, and discuss practical applications for homes, farms, and other landscapes.

The contour swale project was designed and constructed by The Dirt Diva and funded in part by Resorts World Catskills.

Participants will learn:

  • How contour swales and rain gardens capture, slow, and manage water.
  • Construction methods, maintenance considerations, and design principles.
  • Strategies to reduce erosion and improve drainage.
  • Ecological benefits for landscapes, gardens, and farms.
  • Practical steps for planning and installing your own system.
