Farm Beginnings: How to Start Your Own Farm

  • Tuesday, September 10, 2024, 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM

Thinking of becoming a Sullivan County farmer? Learn how to start a farm with Melinda Meddaugh, Agriculture & Food Systems Issue Leader and Michelle Proscia, Agriculture Production Program Manager. You'll also get a peek into the farm operations and production techniques of Good Find Farm with Erica Madden!

Erica opened Good Find Farm, LLC in 2018 and has been running the farm since with the help of a few good friends and a small crew. Erica started farming at an internship at Green String Farm in California in 2014 where she fell in love with the work and decided she wanted to farm for a living. After a year at Green String Farm, Erica moved to the Northeast where there is affordable farmland near dense populations of people making it the ideal place for direct market sales of fresh produce. She got a job working at Keith's Farm in Orange County, NY and worked there for three years. It was through working markets in NYC for Keith's Farm that the opportunity presented itself to farm and steward the land of the former Willow Wisp Organic Farm, and thus Good Find Farm came to be. See more on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/GoodFindFarm/
