The Eat Smart New York (ESNY) program of the Hudson Valley Region provides community-based nutrition education and obesity prevention activities targeted to SNAP and SNAP eligible populations. ESNY utilizes a variety of hands-on education strategies with an assortment of group settings in the community and partnering agencies. The ESNY program collaborates with many to create systematic change through policy, practice and environmental approaches.
The goal of these collaborative efforts is to facilitate and empower voluntary adoption of healthy nutrition and physical activity behaviors conducive to the positive health and well-being of low-income (or limited resource) individuals, families, youth, schools, and communities.

Middletown – Orange Regional Medical Center, in partnership with Eat Smart New York, a Cornell Cooperative Extension program, collected healthy food donations from Jan. 3-20.
The Nourish Your Neighbor healthy food drive stuffed a van on Jan. 20 with boxes of donated healthy food items. All of the food was donated to the RECAP Emergency Food Pantry and will assist in feeding local families in need.
After the holiday season, the shelves of local food pantries quickly become bare. These donations will help those in need by providing nutritionally dense foods that foster better health.
